An energetic indie-pop collaboration between the spirited siblings Brian and Sara DaMert joined by Greg Sellin on bass, Lisa Weiss on keys and Chill Bob on drums, The Tambo Rays have strange in their veins. Based in Oakland since 2013, the TamboRays’ playful showmanship has earned them stage time with tUnE-yArDs, SOKO the Cat, White Fence, Dead Meadow, The Go! Team, Two Gallants, The Dodos, and Gothic Tropic.
While gigging in the Bay Area two years ago, Brian, Sara, and Greg were recruited to join the hi-fi alt-pop outfit WATERS, giving them an important opportunity to hone their skills playing live by performing across the country supporting headliners like Weezer, Tegan and Sara, Misterwives, Matt and Kim, and Cold War Kids, as well playing on national TV shows Conan and Last Call with Carson Daly. During that time, however, a sadness fell over Brian and Sara. Their effervescent, imaginative father, a Vietnam vet turned toy inventor, passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
Mired in turmoil, Brian and Sara dug deep into writing music for their original passion, The Tambo Rays, to relieve the pain. What became of this tragedy was a bright and hopeful reflection of their grief, captured in The Tambo Rays’ fresh EP, Recharge. Recharge proves that out of darkness can come light, and that sadness can inspire beautiful, creative growth. From start to finish, The Tambo Rays’ music is a journey through both heartbreak and triumph.
